What To Expect
At Mt Vernon Christian Church, we have a laid back atmosphere. Come as you are: dress casual, nobody wears suits... not even the pastor! Worship services last a little over an hour, and our music style is contemporary with some hymns.
Child Care
Being a church for all ages with many young families, we think church should be fun and place special emphasis on teaching our children the Word of God. Praise Park, our Children's Church is offered for ages infant through grade 6.
We also believe safety is a priority: we start check in at 9:30 AM, and all areas are sanitized weekly.
Meet Our Staff
Daren Mitchell
Lead Pastor
Daren is the Lead Pastor at Mount Vernon Christian Church. Daren is originally from Colorado. Daren has been in ministry for about 25 years. Daren has served the Lord as a youth pastor, lead pastor, and he served in Nova Scotia before moving back to Colorado. Daren received his Bachelor's Degree from Oklahoma Christian University and his Master's Degree from Colorado Christian University. Daren is married to Kristi and they have four kids: Alex, Kyla, Linden, and Jared. Daren enjoys reading, playing golf, fishing, and spending time with his wife Kristi.
Alexis Smith
Youth Pastor
Alexis is the Youth Pastor at Mount Vernon Christian Church. She is from a small town in North Central Kansas. She spent her whole life there until moving to Joplin, Missouri to attend Ozark Christian College to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Biblical Studies. Alexis is married to Wyatt and they have one son named Ezra and two dogs named Luna and Sophia. Alexis enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and her son.
